In order to explore the relationship between the yield of qualified frozen semen and serum biochemical indexes of bulls at different ages, as well as the effect of aging on the physiological indexes of bulls at different ages. Eventually, the stud bulls were screened more accurately by serum biochemical indicators. Blood samples were collected from 10 Simmental bulls in spring for two consecutive years, some serum biochemical indicators were detected, and the results of frozen semen production were compared and analyzed. The results showed that semen density, qualified frozen sperm yield, serum aspartate aminotransferase and abdominal insulin levels decreased significantly with age (P<0.01). Serum androstenedione, dehydroepiandrosterone, testosterone, and serum γ-glutamyltransferase were significantly increased in both high-yield and low-yield groups, while serum zinc and serum alkaline phosphatase were significantly increased in low-yield group (P<0.01). The serum levels of copper and magnesium in the high and low yield groups increased significantly (P<0.05). The levels of serum total protein and serum uric acid decreased significantly (P<0.05). Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the daily health management of breed bulls, timely supply the necessary trace elements, and reasonably arrange the service age of breed bulls to give full play to the breeding potential of breed bulls.

A survey was conducted on the egg-laying interval of 2160 nests and 465 pairs of producting pigeons with different purposes and different physical stages in 4 pigeon farms. The result showed that the egg laying of all kinds of producting pigeons showed a high regularity. The egg-laying interval was 24 to 48 hours in the same nest (97.68%). The regularity was more obvious in commercial-egg-producting pigeons, which had 99.58%. The average egg-laying interval was 34.38 days in commercial-squab-producting pigeons during hatching and nursing. The average egg-laying interval was 12.73 days in the empty-nest pigeons. It was 21.65 days shorter than that of the pigeons during hatching and feeding and 2.14 days shorter than that of the commercial producting pigeons respectively. For the pigeons duting hatching and nursing, the data had a high dispersion and great differences between different pigeon farms. It was significantly lower in the empty-nest pigeons. The commercial egg-laying pigeons had the lowest dispersion and an abvious peak of egg production.

    Abstract244)      PDF(pc) (1674KB)(150)       Save
The Nineteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China put forward the strategy of rural revitalization, which can not be separated from the support of rural industry. In this paper, the natural resources, beef cattle breeding, breeding risks and benefits of A Village in Wenshui County, Shanxi Province, were taken as the research objects, and the feasibility and risk prevention of developing beef cattle breeding in rural areas were discussed by household interviews. The results showed that according to the natural resource endowment, local knowledge and traditional experience of the villages, the villagers chose the beef cattle breeding. The benefits of beef cattle breeding are considerable, but the ability of farmers to accept and apply new technologies and new things is low, and the ability to deal with the risks of breeding is insufficient. It is suggested that farmers should be helped to develop beef cattle farming from the perspectives of strengthening technical training, increasing policy propaganda, establishing risk prevention mechanism and developing family farms.

In order to evaluate the meat performance of Liyang chicken, the slaughtering performance and meat quality of 12-week-old Liyang chicken were measured. The results showed that The body weight of 0~12 week old Liyang cockerels is always higher than that of hens, and the Bertalanffy model fits the body weight growth curve of Liyang chickens at this stage better; the slaughtering rates of 12-week-old male and female chickens were 91.36% and 90.44%, the whole net carcass rate was 66.83% and 66.44%, the half net carcass rate was 82.18% and 81.17%, and the breast muscle rate was 15.32% and 15.00%, leg muscle rate was 20.06% and 18.72%, abdominal fat rate was 2.13% and 3.29%, respectively. The difference between male and female was not significant (P >0.05) in these characters. Live weight, whole net carcass weight, half net carcass weight, breast muscle weight, and leg muscle weight were all significantly positively correlated with each other (P <0.01); There was a significant positive correlation between whole net carcass weight and half net carcass rate, between breast muscle weight, half net carcass rate and leg muscle rate, and between leg muscle weight and breast muscle rate (P <0.05); the sheer force of 12-week-old cock's leg muscle was significantly higher than that of hens (P <0.05), while there is no significant difference in other meat quality indexes. Compared with the breast muscles, the redness (a value) of the leg muscle color was slightly higher than that of the breast muscles; the pH of the male and female leg muscles are 6.30 and 6.31, respectively, which are higher than 5.90 and 5.84 of the breast muscle; in terms of shear force, the leg muscles were also higher than the breast muscles. The results of muscle fatty acid and protein content determination showed that the pectoral muscle of Liyang chicken had high unsaturated fatty acid content (58.91% in male and 62.79% in female), and the protein content of pectoral muscle was higher than that of leg muscle. The results indicate that the production performance effect of Liyang chicken is good and has certain development value.

Horn is the tissue structure evolved by animals in the process of long-term evolution, and is one of the most iconic structures of ruminants, which plays an important role in the survival and reproduction of cattle. However, in the modern intensive beef cattle breeding industry, the existence of horns often causes a series of problems, which hinders the development of the beef cattle breeding industry, so the study of hornless traits of beef cattle is very important. This paper introduces the morphological structure and developmental characteristics of beef cattle horns, summarizes the genes related to hornless and horned development studied in recent years, and introduces some methods of hornless beef cattle breeding, aiming to provide some references for the research on hornless traits of beef cattle and the cultivation of new hornless varieties of beef cattle.

In modern pig farming, semen quality is an important indicator for testing the production performance of breeding boars, including parameters such as sperm density, vitality, morphology, and DNA fragments. Semen quality is influenced by various factors such as the internal and external environment of male animals, and there are certain differences among pig populations in different regions. At present, many problems, such as large errors, long cycles, and low efficiency in evaluating the quality of boar semen through conventional methods, seriously restrict the development of the pig industry. In order to further analyze the mechanism of spermatogenesis of local pigs and improve their semen quality, weconducted in-depth research from the perspective of molecular genetics. In this article, the research progress of AKAP3, HSF-1, WIP1, SPATA6, and MTHFR genes in the semen quality of local pigs was reviewed, which provides reference materials for the subsequent breeding of high-quality boars.

    Abstract187)      PDF(pc) (1962KB)(272)       Save
The aim of the study was to explore the heterosis of Simmental and Holstein, excavate its candidate genes associated with heterosis and analyze the genetic mechanisms of heterosis in cattle. 91 individuals including 9 Simmental bulls, 41 Holstein cows and 41 offspring of Simmental×Holstein were selected to conduct a genome-wide selection signal study using the illumina bovine GGP100k high-density chip. The top 1% of Fst value was used as the threshold. The results showed that 859 SNPs(Fst value >0.19) were selected by Fst within threshold of top 1%, and 249 candidate genes were annotated between F1 offspring and Simmental (paternal). In addition, 860 SNPs(Fst value >0.15) were selected by Fst, and 261 candidate genes were annotated between F1 offspring and Holstein (maternal). Gene pathway enrichment analysis found that the candidate genes were mainly enriched in the Axon guidance pathway (P<0.01), Focal adhesions and Prolactin signaling pathway (P<0.05) between F1 and parents, respectively. It was found that 38 genes related to growth and development, milk production, carcass, reproduction and meat quality traits of cattle, such as OXTR, CHKA, PRKN, were positively selected in F1. These findings will provide a reference for resolving genetic mechanisms of heterosis and guiding heterosis utilization.
