Technological innovation paths and systematic new practices for beef cattle genetic improvement in Xinjiang

Xinjiang is an important livestock industry base in China. The beef cattle industry is a pillar industry that ensures meat supply, helps farmers and herdsmen increase their income, and empowers rural and agricultural revitalization. Its high-quality development hinges on technological empowerment and systematic promotion. To address the development bottlenecks such as low performance of traditional breeds, reliance on imported high-quality breeding sources, and insufficient genetic stability, Xinjiang actively coordinated with the national genetic improvement plan, established a full-chain promotion system of "innovation-driven technology, hierarchical system support", and relied on technological innovation and industrial clusters to promote the transformation and upgrading of the beef cattle breeding industry. This article systematically reviews the current situation of beef cattle industry development, summarizes the experience of improvement implementation, analyzes the industry effectiveness and existing shortcomings, and proposes optimization development countermeasures. Research shows that Xinjiang has established a specialized regional breeding layout for livestock. The beef cattle industry is well-established, with a modern breeding system in place, and the development of breeding chips has been independently carried out. High-quality beef cattle breeds of brown color are being cultivated. At the same time, through means such as a complete breeding and promotion network, special policy support, and the integration of primary, secondary and tertiary industries, the industry is being promoted to improve quality and increase efficiency. Since the implementation of the improvement measures, Xinjiang's ability to control its own breeding sources has significantly improved, and the production performance and economic benefits of beef cattle have also been greatly enhanced. The refined breeding model has gradually become widespread, and the leading role of Yili Prefecture has been evident. The digital improvement APP has effectively enhanced the management level of the industry. At present, there are still some problems in the industry, such as weak awareness of improvement among farmers, insufficient coordination of the industrial chain, weak foundation of the seed industry, incomplete financial guarantee, and unbalanced regional development. To promote industrial upgrading, this article proposes targeted suggestions such as optimizing grassroots technical services, improving the interest linkage mechanism, opening up channels for scientific and technological transformation, and expanding sources of funds. This research aims to enhance the core leading role of technology, strengthen the guarantee capacity for beef cattle breeding sources, assist Xinjiang in building a high-quality livestock product supply base covering the regional area, and promote the high-quality, efficient and ecologically sustainable development of the beef cattle industry.
